Biting Point is an ambitious group exhibition curated by cross-disciplinary initiatives Teaspoon Projects and Wyn. The exhibition features photography, sculpture, painting and video works across the diverse practices of five artists: Margherita Pedrotta, Natalie Sasi Organ, Linnea Skoglösa, Danae Stratou, and Kusukazu Uraguchi. All works in the exhibition are shown in London for the first time, with Pedrotta and Sasi Organ presenting site-specific commissions.
The exhibition brings into dialogue artists whose practices are materially distinct, and yet all concerned with what happens when control meets its limit. Across painting, sculpture, photography and moving image, the works in the exhibition confront the human desire to determine an outcome and the willingness to be changed by the process.
Across Biting Point, the instability between agency and surrender is treated as the condition through which making happens. In late Japanese photographer Kusukazu Uraguchi’s underwater images, female free-divers stretch their corporeal limits against the force of the sea. London-based artist Linnea Skoglösa's painting reveals that the psychological body cannot be separated from the systems that train it to perform, optimise and monitor itself. British-Thai artist Natalie Sasi Organ’s paintings juxtapose exacting in-laid pearl techniques with the cultural meanings of migration and displacement. Greek artist Danae Stratou’s kinetic water installation produces perfect circles that immediately begin to dissipate. Italian artist Margherita Pedrotta abrades and transforms found objects to the limit of material integrity and threshold of breakage.
