Palazzo Madama, Turin
Museo Civico d’Arte Antica

On the occasion of Artissima 2024, Palazzo Madama is pleased to present the Crossing project, an exhibition - curated by Cristina Beltrami - which brings together four artists of different backgrounds and origins who have agreed to deal with the majestic spaces, the millenary history and the vast collection of Palazzo Madama.

The exhibition opens with the sculptures by Frédérique Nalbandian - placed at the top of the Juvarra staircase - in homage to the Roman foundation of the building, and continues inside the museum, in the ceramics room, with a series of large vases made by RunoB, a young Chinese artist by birth and Venetian by choice, who brings to Palazzo Madama a series of 10 vases created during his very recent residence in Nove (Vicenza) and entirely dedicated to the museum's vast ceramic collection.

The third work of the project is the large round of almost two meters that Marta Sforni created specifically for Crossing, a tribute to the monumental 1928 chandelier by the Toso Brothers which dominates the center of the room dedicated to glass, but at the same time is part of a research , both pictorial and conceptual, which the artist has been pursuing for years.

To close the itinerary, the Juvarra veranda hosts the large installation by Giuseppe Lo Cascio, a young artist from Palermo who is particularly attentive to the themes of memory and of everyday life returned through an unexpected and spectacular use of objects.

Crossing therefore intends to offer an opportunity for reflection on the rich collection of Palazzo Madama starting from a new perspective, a possible and non-binding angle, given by tools "other" than our gaze. The visitor will therefore find himself in four stumbling blocks compared to the usual visit route and will be guided at every step by an extended caption that explains the reason for the presence of the artist and the work in that place, as well as a QR code that will allow him to delve deeper into the subject through critical texts and images.
