Milan, january 2026

The exhibition is part of the ongoing curatorial trajectory of NP ArtLab gallery, which has shaped its research within a context that brings together modern and contemporary art, art and design, interpretation and dialogue with a historical moment evoking the 1960s, the 1970s, and—through Gio’ Pomodoro (Orciano di Pesaro, November 17, 1930 – Milan, December 21, 2002) in this particular episode—the 1980s.
On the occasion of “Musei in vetrina” within Milano MuseoCity, NP ArtLab and the Gio’ Pomodoro Archive present an exhibition project hosted within the gallery’s spaces. A small portion of the historic studio on Via San Marco in Milan—where the sculptor worked from the 1980s until his death in 2002—is recreated and inserted into a different context. Here, furnishings, bibliographic materials, design productions, and artworks—both previously unseen and iconic works usually kept in the artist’s archive—transport the visitor into an environment set back in time. A time when Gio’ Pomodoro and his generation of artists and professionals, during the years of the economic boom, had chosen Milan as a hub of exchange, research, experimentation, and professional production.

Thus, through a small number of furnishing elements, bibliographic materials, and a careful and precious selection of works (unique pieces and multiples, sculptures, design creations, graphics, and drawings, some of which are unpublished), Gio’s “studiolo” comes back to life, temporarily relocating to another space in order to welcome different generations. These generations may either recognize or encounter for the first time the work of an artist who, through sculpture as the formalization of research practices, experimented with a wide range of languages and materials. This takes place in that Milan which Pomodoro had chosen in the mid-1950s as the destination where his learned and continuous research could take root.

To ensure continuity with the gallery’s curatorial path, alongside the master’s works two important traces from the previous exhibition “L’insieme delle parti. Simona Pavoni and Giacomo Benevelli”, accompanied by a text by Annika Pettini, are deliberately left on display. Simona Pavoni (San Benedetto del Tronto, 1994), through some of her refined works, transforms the space, recreating an environment that had entered into dialogue with Giacomo Benevelli—who collaborated on several occasions with Pomodoro—and which will now engage in dialogue with Gio’ Pomodoro.

Accompanying this immersive “studiolo” is a text by the exhibition’s curator, Rossella Farinotti.
