“Nothing is what appears not to be there and, precisely for this reason, opens a space for possibility. Within is what remains hidden, contained within matter and the body, waiting to manifest itself. Two dimensions meet at the unstable boundary between what we see and what we cannot yet see.
Void does not necessarily coincide with absence. There exists a form of void that, precisely when it seems to subtract something from view, opens a space for what cannot yet be seen. It is a suspended condition, a threshold where presence is never fully asserted and absence is never definitive. In the painting of Leonardo Dalla Torre, the void assumes this ambiguous nature and becomes a space of waiting, a place where something seems to have already happened or is about to occur. The gaze focuses on subtraction, on what remains at the margins of the image, on what is not shown yet continues to be felt. Even when the figure appears, it never offers itself as a fully stable presence. The body can be traversed by light almost to the point of disappearing, consumed by the pictorial matter, transformed into a mineral surface. The figure remains, but already seems to belong to a process of dissolution. It is precisely within this tension between what appears and what progressively fades away that the works in this selection are situated.“
